Who’s behind the Canoes?
Hi! I’m Edith, the proud owner of Cotswold Canoe Hire. Let me take you on a journey through this business story. So, it all began back in 2014, a smaller version of Cotswold Canoe Hire was born under the name Swindon Watersports, thanks to John who laid the foundation for this amazing venture. Fast forward to 2019, I took the sole ownership and transformed it into the Cotswold Canoe Hire you know and love today.
Despite various setbacks, I put my heart and soul into this business, giving it a full shop makeover inside and out. But it’s not just about the aesthetics, I wanted to create an amazing experience for every one of you that comes through our doors. That’s why I have a crew of talented students who get to taste the working environment while providing top-notch service and have fun. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see them grow and thrive here and beyond.
Now, let me tell you about my mission. I want everyone who visits us to immerse themselves in the beauty of the River Thames. It’s not just about having fun on the water; it’s about reaping the physical and mental health benefits of watersports, connecting with your family and friends old and new. It’s amazing how being out in the water can have such a positive impact on your overall well being.
I’m a firm believer in giving back. I love supporting charities here and facilitating their fund raising for their vital causes. And hey, I’m not one to shy away from challenges myself! I’ve taken on my fair share of adventures over the years, all in the name of making a positive impact.
I come from a business, finance, and education background, which has shaped my approach to running Cotswold Canoe Hire. Where service, quality of equipment, inclusion, sustainability and the environment are at the core of my decision-making process. Sport and nature should be for all- No one should be left out. We’re all about preserving the beauty of the great outdoors for all abilities and generations to come.
Speaking of the outdoors, that’s where you’ll often find me when I’m not running the business. Hiking is my current passion, but I also love paddleboarding, kayaking, cycling, and running whenever I get the chance. Oh, and some folk say I have an eye for photography. You’ll often spot me with my trusty camera in hand, capturing moments that tell a story. In fact, one of my proudest photography moments was being at Windsor Castle in 2022, at the request of REME, to capture a special presentation on the Queen’s birthday. It was a truly memorable milestone in my professional photography journey.
So, there you have it. Cotswold Canoe Hire is more than just a business to me, especially after the impact the bridge closure had last year on not only the business but me personally. It’s a passion project, a way to connect you with family, friends, getting active, nature, and a platform for giving back.
So please come visit us again and again and support your small businesses.
Edith Cameron
